System Problem in Cranberry Causes Water Discoloration – Butler Eagle

Always “safe to drink” water

A “system issue” with the West View Water Authority Baden water treatment plant in Cranberry is causing some Cranberry residents to experience cloudy, discolored water and low water pressure Wednesday morning.

According to an alert posted on the Cranberry Township website, the water continues to meet quality standards and is safe to use.

“If discoloration appears, run a lower level cold water faucet for one to two minutes until the water runs clear,” the notice states. “West View Water and Cranberry Township are working to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible.”

West View Water supplies all of the water to Cranberry Township. A water system issue at the West View Water Authority Baden water treatment plant in Cranberry is causing some Cranberry residents to experience cloudy, discolored water and low water pressure Wednesday morning.

According to an alert posted on the Cranberry Township website, the problem was caused by “stirred sediment in the pipe distribution system” at West View Water Authority due to increased water production. West View Water supplies all of the water to Cranberry Township.

“The increase was necessary to store water for a potential outage resulting from a train derailment at Harmar, upstream of the two water treatment facilities,” the alert reads.

The township stressed that the water continues to meet quality standards and is safe to use.

“If discoloration appears, run a lower level cold water faucet for one to two minutes until the water runs clear,” the notice states. “West View Water and Cranberry Township are working to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible.”

Residents who have discolored water or stained laundry should stop using the water for laundry, keep laundry items damp until the water runs clear, and avoid using water bleach, says the web alert.

“Soak items for a few hours and re-wash with your usual detergent and non-chlorine bleach,” the alert said.
